Top 5 Foods That Get Rid Of Acne

When dealing with acne, you will hear many people saying eat this, don’t eat that, this will help, and this will hurt. Today I am going to be talking about the top 5 foods to eat if you are struggling with acne. I struggled with acne for many years until I discovered the root cause of my acne. Discovering the root cause was the most pivotal point in my journey.

It didn’t matter how much I spent on skincare, how many facials I got, or how many dermatologists/doctors I saw. It wasn't until I truly figured out the root cause that my skin was able to clear up naturally without any medical intervention. It has been smooth sailing since then. These top foods are NOT going to help heal your acne overnight they are going to address one of the main root causes of acne which is inflammation . They can also help with:

-Detoxing

-Supporting your Liver

-Supporting your Gut Health

This is why I am such a proponent to a holistic approach. Because everything is connected and everything works with one another. We are not just all of these individual body parts and organs that we have to address individually we have to address the whole body as one. Let's dive into these Top 5 Foods that will help you address one of the root causes of acne, which is inflammation.

1. Wild Blueberries Help Acne With Antioxidants!

Not just regular blueberries, wild blueberries. These are something that I put into my smoothie almost every day. Even if I don’t have a smoothie then I try to fit them in somewhere else throughout my day. They are very potent in antioxidants. If you buy wild blueberries you will see this for yourself because if they get on your skin you will see that they are SO pigmented.

They will stain like crazy but when it comes to food, you want that pigment. Those pigments signal that they are full of phytonutrients, antioxidants, and micronutrients. All of the good things that we are looking for in our food. When it comes to inflammation, antioxidants are our best friends. You can find these in the frozen food aisle, try them out in your next smoothie!

2. Wild Cold-Water Fish For Omega 3’s

Try to incorporate wild cold-water fish into your diet at least once a week! If you struggle with acne this is a great way to get in your Omega 3’s. A lot of times when you’re struggling with acne, your liver is not functioning and detoxifying correctly. It may not be going through Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification efficiently enough.

Sometimes when we take Omega 3 supplements, it overloads our liver and gallbladder and it can’t process that amount of fat in one sitting. By incorporating the wild salmon or fish it's more of a bio ready form of omega 3’s that we can get into our body. This way it isn't going to bombard the liver and gallbladder all at once! I look for wild-caught salmon, but you can look for sardines and mackerel as well!

3. Garlic and Onions For Liver Health

Garlic and onions are incredible at healing and nourishing your system as a whole. They are great for yeast issues in your gut. They are also amazing for your liver and gallbladder because they have sulfur properties that naturally cleanses them. Be aware that if you struggle with SIBO they are not going to be your best friend….. But if you aren't struggling with it, then they are amazing to add. Try to incorporate those as much as you can throughout the week. They are delicious and nourishing!

4. Cruciferous Vegetables For Cystic Acne

These vegetables are: cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cabbage! They are very great for phytonutrients and micronutrients. A micronutrient that these vegetables are full of is sulforaphane. This is VERY beneficial for your liver! There is a supplement called DIM that is amazing for your liver support and its great for cystic acne as well. It is a highly concentrated form of cruciferous vegetables. Get all of these vegetables in as much as you can throughout the week. Roast them up together and you can get also get them pre-chopped to make it easier. Pick your favorite, or all of them, and go to town!

Lemons.jpg

5. Lemon For Alkalizing Your Body

I want to say that just because its number 5 doesn't mean that its lowest on the totem pole. Lemon is very beneficial if you are struggling with acne and gut issues such as constipation. I add half of a lemon squeezed into my water every morning. It helps to get your bowel movements going and is very alkalizing in the body. I know that lemon seems acidic but it changes when it gets into your system. It also helps with bile production from your gallbladder into your liver. This is how your liver detoxifies, it’s through the bile that your gallbladder secretes.

This is going to help you to get rid of some of the toxins that typically hold up in your liver when they can't go anywhere else. It’s our bodies way of protecting us. Sometimes toxins are not able to be property secreted. They may not have been able to transfer from fat-soluble to water-soluble through the two phases of detoxification through the liver. Lemon will help with the creation of bile production and it will help flush stuff through the liver and gallbladder. Squeeze some lemon on vegetables, water or salad you can use it for everything!

You Need To Find Out The Root Cause Of Your Acne…

There are many more foods that we could go into. BUT you need to figure out the root cause of your acne. That is the first and foremost thing you need to do before you do anything else. That is the first thing that I do with my clients when they come to me and have been struggling with acne their entire life. Honestly, I am their last resort because unfortunately we have been taught to put a bandaid on things instead of figuring out the root cause. Some clients have tried Accutane or medical intervention. Don’t get me wrong, it works for the time they are on it but when they come off of it they realize that it's really not addressing the root cause it’s just masking the symptom. Acne is a symptom of a much larger problem that is going on in your body. This could be inflammation, food sensitivities or improper detoxification.

It has been shown that people who suffer from acne may have polymorphism which are snips in your genetic code that make it harder for you to detoxify. You may be able to go through Phase 1 in the liver but then not be able to properly go through Phase 2 so everything is junked up in there. BUT unless you know that, you don't know what to give your body. And you are once again just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Your gut health is SO important, I talk about this at nauseam and you will always hear about from me over again. Just because you're not having digestive issues such as gas, bloating, or stomach aches doesn't mean you don't have gut issues! There could be many other symptoms that are caused by your gut health but doesn't come up as gut issues such as:

-Acne

-Headaches

-Fatigue

-Achy Joints

The list goes on. You always want to support your liver if you are struggling with acne. The liver is such a vital organ that doesn't get enough attention. Right now everyone is talking about gut health and brain health with is super important but the body is a complete system. We need to pay attention to everything else that is going on. The liver is so vital! It can regrow itself that's how important it is. If you cut off ¾ of the liver it will grow back. You need to support your liver if you have acne…. Remember this when you are implementing these foods.
